Sunshine Blogger Award³

We were nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Lily from Cheeky Booky! This is our third time for this award, but it never gets old, for we love getting selected since it means another blogger thought of us!

  • Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post and/or on your blog

1. Which Disney Princess do you relate yourself with?

Nancy: Mulan!!! It’s a rare Disney movie in which BOTH her parents are still alive, plus Mulan is kick -ass. The romance at the end is secondary, because while I am a sucker for romance, Mulan and her team prioritize saving that day before that happens.

Kathleen: Jasmine! She is smart, headstrong, and independent, but she is also loving and a good judge of character. She’s not passive at all and takes charge of who she is, where she’s going, and who she loves. She refuses to conform to others’ expectations or plans for her, and I both admire and strive to be like her.

2. What would the world be like if you are the leader? (Be as detailed as you like)

Nancy: World peace and a beautiful environment!

Kathleen: First thing I would do as world leader would be cure all nut allergies (seriously, it sucks)! I would strive to lead a peaceful, humane, and just world.

3. Top 5 Pairings?

Nancy: Me & my husband, Eleanor/Park, Superman/Wonder Woman (ignore what Kathleen says below for the Kingdom Come pairing was perfect!), Jamie/Claire from Outlander and Ehd/Beh from Transcendence (the most ridiculous historical fiction romance book ever that I inexplicably loved).

Is this not the best OTP ever?!

Kathleen: Batman/Wonder Woman!!! Black Canary/Green Arrow, Barry/Iris from Flash. Harry/Hermione.

4. What animal is your patronus? ( Mine is a Dolphin according to Pottermore XD)

Nancy: Wolf. I love their beauty and teamwork.

Kathleen: I think mine was a terrier according to Pottermore, but I secretly feel it would be a snow leopard instead.

5. OH NO! Eric Cartman came and stole your favourite desert. What’s your favourite desert and how would you deal with it? (Yes I am a huge South Park Fan) XD

Nancy: I am a sucker for dark chocolate so Cartman wouldn’t even stand a chance of getting near it in the first place.

Kathleen: My favorite dessert is homemade chocolate cake… with 3 layers and chocolate frosting, just how my mom makes it. Consequently, I would have no qualms about punching Eric Cartman out over it 8D

6. What would you do if you won a huge jackpot from the lottery?

Nancy: Fund my children’s college educations and donate to charity. Then take some epic vacations!

Kathleen: Pay off them student loans!!!

7. What book do you think should be a videogame?

Nancy: Ready Player One!

Kathleen: I talked about this in a previous post, but among them, I really want an 8 bit sidescrolling George Perez WW game!

8. (On the behalf of my friend who would ask everyone this) Vampires or Zombies?

Nancy: Reluctantly vampire. I do not wish to be a rotting mindless zombie.

Kathleen: Neither, because they are both seriously overrated and overhyped following the eras of Twilight and The Walking Dead.

9. You have the power of re-animation to bring back anyone from the dead. Who would you bring back?

Nancy: I read the short story The Monkey’s Paw as a teen, and it traumatized me so I would never wish the dead back to life.

Kathleen: Robin Williams. I miss him so much.

10. Would you be a Superhero or a Supervillian and what would your name be?

Nancy: Hero of course! I used The Superhero Name Generator and it gave me The Silk Shadow! Sounds cool to me.

Kathleen: Superhero! I’m unsure of what my name would be, though. There are so many that are already taken =P

11. And lastly the most important question: Cats, Dogs, both or neither??

Nancy: Cats 100%

Kathleen: PUPS!!! ❤

Our questions for our nominees are:

  1. Describe your best friend.
  2. Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts?
  3. Do you buy or borrow the books you read?
  4. What’s the most creative thing you’ve ever done?
  5. Do you like to cook? If so, do you like to experiment?
  6. What is you most controversial book-related opinion?
  7. What would you do if you won a huge jackpot from the lottery?
  8. What is your favorite topic/category to blog about?
  9. What is your favorite T.V. show?
  10. Who is your favorite author?
  11. If you could switch lives with one person who would you pick?

Q & A:

1. Can you describe your ideal man-cave/woman-cave/library, and what kind of things we would find in there?

Nancy: Just read what Kathleen writes below this. Me too.

Kathleen: I guess my home library would traditionally look more like a “man-cave”; I like dark woods and colors that are traditionally seen to be more masculine. Big comfy couch for reading on. A window seat if I wanna mix it up =P And blankets! Floor to ceiling bookshelves of course. A fireplace would be ideal!

2. What was one of your most prized toys/possessions when you were a child?

Nancy: There is a picture of me in a crib sleeping with my Harris Bank lion. I named him Powsie Wowsie and still have him. All my kids have loved him, and he will be kept forever as a family heirloom! Powsie graciously agreed to be pictured in the blog 😉

Kathleen: I had a Lucky plushie from 101 Dalmatians and I beat that thing near to death from loving it XD

3. What book/comic book movie adaptation do you wish they would make that has not been done yet?

Nancy: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell! But the casting would be crucial to make it successful. No little Hollywood starlet would do for Eleanor.

Artist: Simini Blocker

Kathleen: I’m always wary of this question because when a book goes to screen, they always manage to screw something up… that said, I’d love to see a DC Bombshells animated series!

4. You won a $500 gift card to the bookstore, what do you buy first?

Nancy: I’d probably head to the non-fiction aisle for some photography books about the National Parks, and of course I’d be in the comic book/graphic novel area looking for some classics to pick up.

Kathleen: The illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Only have The Sorcerer’s Stone so far~

5. If you had to cosplay any character, and had access to whatever you needed, who are you going as?

Nancy: I would go in a Star Trek uniform.

Kathleen: Oh man, I’m torn… buuuut if I have unlimited time/resources I’d want to do a proper Batgirl. With armor, not that spandex crap. Like Arkham Knight Batgirl~

christopher-cao-batgirl-02

6. You can have any robot-pet, what kind of robo-pet do you get?

Nancy: A big wolf-dog.

Kathleen: A PUPPY!!!

7. What was the worst mark you ever got in school?

Nancy: I do not have an ear for languages, so I attempted Spanish in both HS and college and squeaked by with a C- even with the assistance of my HS best friend who can speak Spanish fluently. She would help me write my assignments. Gracias Annette!

Kathleen: I originally got a C on my senior thesis for my undergrad… after creating 10 oil paintings and staying at school my entire spring break to work on them. My professor just plain didn’t like me and the feeling was mutual. I contested it and ended up getting a B.

8. What would be the absolute worst villain/monster after you?

Nancy: Freddy Krueger. Read all about my sleep issues with this villain in my guest post for Just Dread-Full.

Kathleen: A personification of my student loan debt.

aaeaaqaaaaaaaaadaaaajgi5mdk4m2i3lwuxn2itndzjmi04mzyzlwrmndazmmewotyyna

9. If you were going colour blind, and get to choose which colour you lose, what colour will you never see again?

Nancy: Barf green. The name of that shade explains why.

Kathleen: That specific shade of ugly ’70s puke-orange. You know which one I’m talking about.

10. If you could own any fictional vehicle, what are you driving?

Nancy: I’m not a fan of flying, so I guess I’ll pick the Batmobile.

Kathleen: The Invisible Jet… of course… =P

11. You get one protein, one fruit/vegetable, and one dairy product, for the rest of your life, what are your choices?

Nancy: Chicken, raspberries and cheese.

Kathleen: Chicken, strawberries, and I’m lactose intolerant! I do like soy yogurt, though, does that count???

YOU, our dear readers, are our sunshine so we nominate ALL of you out there to do this using the questions we answered! Thank you and have a bright wonderful day!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Michael at My Comic Relief nominated us for this award that acknowledges “bloggers who are positive and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”. Before you read any further, make sure you check out Michael’s crazy good and insightful blog, for right now he’s wrapping up a four part series on the different incarnations of the tv/movie Jokers! Pick your favorite Joker and tell him why!

The rules to accept the Sunshine Award:

  • Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the eleven questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate eleven blogs * (or however many you want) to receive the award and write them eleven new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or your blog

1)  What are the five best films of the decade thus far (so that’s 2010-2016)?

Nancy: Star Wars- The Force Awakens is by far the best.  I really am stumped for others, as I don’t see many movies, and while I like a lot, there are no others that truly stand out like SW. But I will give a shout out to At Any Price because my family and I are in this movie! Seriously! We were picked from a casting call of thousands and are in a scene at the concessions stand between Dennis Quaid and Clancy Brown. My husband and daughter do a walk by the actors, and the boys and I are sitting at a picnic table behind the two men. Blink and you’ll miss us.

Kathleen: I don’t get to movies much, so I’m not sure how great these movies really are in the grand scheme of things XD I loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Lego Movie, Out of the Furnace, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Deadpool.

2)  What is a television show that you would suggest to anyone?

Nancy: The Americans on FX- married undercover spies from Mother Russia in the DC area in the 1980’s. Love the intrigue, the era, the actors!

Kathleen: Bob’s Burgers. Too many adult animated shows rely on crude humor or humor that hurts others, but this show is funny because it’s just plain written well. At it’s core, it’s about a family who loves each other. It’s heartwarming, a little ridiculous, but genuinely hilarious.

3)  Is there a movie you liked better than the book?

Nancy: The Magic of Ordinary Days which was a Hallmark movie. I liked the ending in the movie more than the book ending.

Kathleen: Brooklyn! The movie was soooo much better honestly just skip the book.

4)  What book deserves its own television series?

Nancy: Locke and Key! They tried a series a few years back and shot a pilot but it didn’t get picked up. Fingers crossed that it will get off the ground this time around.

Kathleen: The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, but it would do better as an animated series rather than a live action one, I think.

5)  What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

Nancy: Forest Gump! Love the evocative music throughout the decades.

Kathleen: Batman Forever. Sue me 8D

6)  What is your favorite movie score (c’mon, they’re different!)?

Nancy: Phantom of the Opera, by Andrew Lloyd Weber. When my family is not around I love to sing the theme song.

Kathleen: Lord of the Rings!!! Or Sweeney Todd.

7) Do you prefer a movie theatre or the couch at home for your initial viewing of a film?

Nancy: Some movies such as the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises deserve the theatre experience, but I’m a busy mother- real life often dictates the couch!

Kathleen: Theater, because of the shared experience. Couch is a very close second – more room to cuddle the boyfriend =P

8)  What is your favorite genre of film?  Why?

Nancy: Suspense. I like it to have a dose of action, romance and intrigue. I want to figure out who did it!

Kathleen: Fantasy! With a dash of action and romance =P

9)  What movie do you wish had a sequel that doesn’t?

Nancy: The Incredibles! Why in the world did Cars get two sequels while the amazing Incredibles did not?? I heard that finally Incredibles 2 will be released in 2018- 14 years after the first.

Kathleen: Repo! The Genetic Opera. The ending was both tied up nicely and left a lot of things open to the imagination at the same time. I need more!!!

10)  Do you read the book and then see the movie or see the movie and then read the book??

Nancy: Are you kidding? Book first! (Except for the Outlander tv series- those books are monsters to get through).

Kathleen: I’m with Nancy! Book first, duh!

film-book

11)  What role do films and going to/watching movies play in your life?

Nancy: Not much unfortunately. See my answer to questions #1& #9, for I have a time crunch of epic proportions. I have a huge list of movies I’d like to see some day, but that might be when my three and grown and flown!

Kathleen: I’m more into TV shows than movies, so I mostly rewatch movies to unwind when my TV queue isn’t too full.
